Why the success of others is a growth opportunity for you….

Be honest with yourself now… do you sometimes feel threatened or even defeated by the success of others?

It’s human nature to be a bit envious of people when they’re doing well, or if you perceive them to be achieving more than you.

However, these feelings are an opportunity for growth. It’s worth remembering that there is enough success to go around.

If you’re running a business and someone else is doing well at it, that’s cause for celebration because it shows that it can be done successfully… that’s really exciting.

What I’m talking about is the difference between a scarcity mentality and an abundance mentality.

“People with a scarcity mentality tend to see everything in terms of win-lose. There is only so much; and if someone else has it, that means there will be less for me. The more principle-centered we become, the more we develop an abundance mentality, the more we are genuinely happy for the successes, well-being, achievements, recognition, and good fortune of other people. We believe their success adds to…rather than detracts from…our lives.”

Stephen R. Covey

Abundance is the way forward but it’s a mindset that has to be carefully cultivated. The first step is to acknowledge when the green-eyed monster is paying you a visit. Ask yourself why you’re feeling envious and remind yourself that someone else’s success can serve as inspiration for you. They may have beaten the path ahead of you, but if they can do it, so can you.
